The Shazand refinery in Iran will soon double its output to 16 million liters a day, following the commencement of operations by a new gasoline production unit in three weeks time.
Gasoline which will be produced by the refinery is expected to meet the Euro-5 standard.
Iran's has seen a 95% fall in the import of gasoline over the last four years, owing to the rising refinery capacity and lower fuel subsidies aided by Western sanctions.
National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution deputy oil minister and managing director Alireza Zeighami was quoted by Mehr news agency as saying that the Iran's total gasoline production capacity may rise to 70 million liters a day by 19 March 2013.
The company said it plans to produce oil products such as gasoline, gasoil, and kerosene that meet Europe's updated standards.
"The Sulfur in some oil products such as gasoil and kerosene was very high and will be reduced by launching new projects," Zeighami said.
A total of four new development plans will be put into operation.
Iran's oil refineries intake is 1.850 million barrels per day while production capacity of four main oil products has now increased to 246 million liters per day.
Production capacity of four main oil products previously stood at 210 million liters.
