Milton Police have charged a 42-year-old Milton man with assault after he allegedly used an aluminum baseball bat to hit another man.

Police were called to the 200 block of Grist Mill Drive in the Cannery Village community about 2:45 p.m., Jan. 24. Police say John Distefano became upset with the 42-year-old victim and hit the man in the back of the head with the bat and punched him in the face. He also used the bat to strike an open vehicle door.

The victim was able to get away from Distefano and flee down the street, police said. He was taken to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Distefano was charged with second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited and disorderly conduct.

Distefano was processed and arraigned at Milton Police Department via video phone with Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $16,100 secured bond.
