Most states require you to have a major such as Social Studies in order to teach History or Political Science. This is depending on whether they offer your subject or you have the required number of credit hours to teach the level you desire to teach.
Some will go further requiring you to have teacher avenue courses. Others allow these types of courses to be gained while teaching.
Having completed all the necessary requirements required by the state in which you wish to teach many also require that you pass a teacher certification exam. Having done consequently, you will receive your certification.
It?s a simple process: contact the State Board of Education in the state you wish to teach. They will be glad to give or send all the information to answer all your questions.
One added note; many states prefer you to have a Masters or be working on one during your primarily year of teaching.
Good Luck!
