Former Manitoba First Nations chief Terry Nelson is making news in Iran, taking to the local airwaves to complain of Canada's continued attempts to "exterminate" his people.
Press TV, Iran's state-run global television network, interviewed Nelson and former Dakota Tipi First Nation chief Dennis Pashe Sunday.
Nelson said the Canadian government is holding reserves back.
As for the high rate of incarceration of aboriginal women, "It's part of the ongoing effort by the Canadian government to exterminate us," Nelson said.
The Press TV special joined Nelson in attacking Canada's human rights record, showing video clips from other aboriginal people speaking out against the government.
In a recent letter to a Canadian national newspaper, Nelson blamed the "Jewish media" for negative coverage of his trip to Iran.
In an interview with QMI Agency last week, B'Nai Brith lawyer David Matas criticized Nelson's use of "racist vocabulary."
"The only way we're going to get respect for aboriginal rights is if people accept equality, oppose discrimination, oppose incitement to hatred," he said. "And Terry Nelson, by wallowing in all of this stuff, is undercutting advocacy for rights for aboriginals."
The Canadian government recently severed diplomatic ties with Iran, which it considers a state sponsor of terrorism.
