Maeve Binchy RIP ? renowned writer and wonderful ambassador for ...

Late last night as I was attempting to write another blog post I just caught a tweet which flashed up on the corner of my laptop I seen ?Maeve Binchy RIP?

She had died peacefully in a Dublin hospital earlier following a short illness, her husband Gordon Snell was by her side.

I stopped to search the online news outlet?s to find out more in my search I can across a lovely tribute by author and screenwriter Caroline Farrell on facebook.

I don?t have ugly ducklings turning into swans in my stories. I have ugly ducklings turning into confident ducks? Maeve Binchy RIP

I thought it was very fitting and did a very simple thing of doing a copy and paste and sent it out on twitter timeline at the time of writing this post, that tweet has been re-tweeted more than 832 times across all parts of the world, it even made the Irish Times. For me that was a good indication how successful and respected Maeve Binchy was.

I have never read any of Maeve?s books, but I did have the pleasure of meeting and speaking with her in the Long Hall of Kilkenny Castle when I was working on the feature film of her book Circle of Friends. That day in Kilkenny she was so natural and took time to speak with me and many others on the crew, for such famous writer she appeared to be taken back by the scale of the production, but I guess even for such a renowned writer it must be amazing to see your writing bought to life in film.

For me Maeve Binchy was more than a writer, anytime I seen her on TV or heard her on a radio she portrayed such positivity, larger than life personality, she was completely relaxed and had the ability to recall stories at ease, it must have been a dream for radio or TV presenters to have her on their show. As well as having been such a successful writer by international standards selling 42 million books, she was also a wonderful ambassador for Ireland. There have been many fitting tributes paid to her today and to quote the Irish Times this morning she was a national treasure.
