?What a surprise,? is what I said when I heard about this newest superstar coming to the stage at DPAC. This will be a such a treat for those that love Charlie Wilson- his first theater appearance in the Triangle and a chance for old and new fans to experience one of the best voices in R & B with both the classic hits and his newest songs that are all over the radio. The intimate theater setting and great sound at DPAC will really get a chance to shine on October 6th,??said Bob Klaus GM of DPAC.

Former lead singer of The GAP Band Charlie Wilson is now going three-for-three with his third solo album on Jive Records, 2010?s Just Charlie, which contains the hit single ?You Are.? The single went to #1 on Billboard?s Urban Adult Contemporary chart and held that position for thirteen weeks.

The GAP Band?s songs like ?Party Train? and ?You Dropped a Bomb on Me? rocked dance floors in the 1980s. In the 1990s, Charlie began a solo career; his vocals are considered influential on new jack swing singers like Keith Sweat and R. Kelly.

Charlie received two 2010 Grammy? Award nominations for Best Album (Uncle Charlie) and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for ?There Goes My Baby.? He got a 2010 NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Male Artist. In addition, Billboard magazine named Charlie the number one Urban Adult Contemporary Artist of 2009 and ?There Goes My Baby? the number one Urban Adult Contemporary Single of 2009. Wilson also received the 2009 Soul Train Icon Award.

Wilson is also a spokesperson for the Prostate Cancer Foundation; having lost his father to prostate cancer and being a prostate cancer survivor himself, Charlie is committed to assist the Foundation to continue their research. To that end, he has designed his own signature fedora and named it the ?Uncle Charlie? hat. A portion of the proceeds from each hat purchased benefits the Foundation.

DPAC?s upcoming lineup includes Ron White (Sept 10) and Earth Wind & Fire (Sept 18).?? For more information about these and all DPAC shows please visit www.dpacnc.com.
